News : US Buys 36 Percent of China's Wood Floor Exports

While China continues to export huge numbers of wood flooring products, the country is also facing a materials price increase as countries around the world have started enforcing restrictions on wood cutting and exports to protect the environment, according to a new study. The study, Global Research on China Wood Flooring Industry Report 2013–2016, says China manufactures 20 percent of the global wood flooring market. Sales grew 6 percent year-over-year to 400 million square meters in 2013. China exports $660 million USD of wood flooring each year, with the United States importing about 36 percent of that flooring. Bamboo, used for more than 5,000 years as building material across the world, has come into vogue the last two decades as a pro-environment floor covering. 

Is it, though? A study released by research firm Dovetail Partners Inc.revisited the theory and concluded that bamboo is not environmentally superior to wood. But, as the authors said, it's hard to “get the green genie back in its bottle.”  More...
